Don’t play no games, that’ll ruin thangs
And make me leave ya,or mistreat ya and you

Don’t hesitate,I could make you great
Like Cleopatra Jones I could set you straight
Chorus:
I’m the real thing,in stereo
I got a little highs,I got a little lows
Follow this,melodic flow
I could make it shine,I could make it glow
(Repeat x 2)
I’m more than a toy for your satisfaction
I’m a pay-per-view for the TV screen,your
main attraction/
Your phosphorus,I’m your energy
When your lost, and you need some focus
come see me

In the mornin’,in the evenin’,when the

Glow Glow Glow…
When I turn it up,yeah brotha you know

(Repeat x 3)
Glow Glow Glow…
(oooooooh)
(Chorus x 2)
If I could give you the world
On a silver platter
Would even matter
You’d still be mad at me
If I can find in all this
A dozen roses
Which I would give to you
You’d still be miserable
In reality
I’m gon be who I be
And I don’t feel no faults
For all the lies that you bought
You can try as you may
Break me down when I say
That it ain’t up to you
Gon on do what you do
Chorus:
Hate on me hater
Now or Later
Cause I’m gonna do me
You’ll be made baby
(Go head and hate)
Go head and hate on me hater
I’m not afraid of
What I got I paid for
You can hate on me…
Ooh if I gave you peaches
Out of my on garden
And I made you a peach cobbler
Would you slap me out?
Wonder if I gave you diamonds
Out of my on womb
Would you feel the love in that
Or ask why not the moon
If I gave you sanity
For the whole of humanity
Had all the solutions for the pain and pollution
No Matter Where I live
Despite the things I give
You’ll always be this way
So go ahead and …
(Chorus x 2)
You Cannot…
Hate On me
Cause my mind is free
Feel my destiny
So Shall it Be
(Repeat x 2)
(Chorus)
It’s a midsummer night hour and I’m thinkin
about cha babe,wanting you
I wish you could catch a jet plane,I know you
would,if only you could
The finances ain’t what we’d like,and
sometimes we have to sacrifice
Cuz I know,it’s hard over there where you are
Cuz it’s raining over here on the inside of my
womb…
Chorus:
… passion and desire baby…
… innumerable fires honey?…
… I got for you,you know that it’s true…
Come see me…
I feel like I’ve been waiting eternity for you
to touch me
I can see it in my mind’s eye,how right
and true,this love we’ll make
And ooooh,if you ever believed in anything,
believe this is true
I am your woman baby and you are my
man,too
(Chorus)
(Breakdown)
I ain’t got no questions in my mind,no feelings
of doubt
I believe I’ve just been waiting all this time to
find out what loves about
And I’m so excited,and a little scared,thinkin’
I’m gonna get overwhelmed every breath?/
Ooh baby I wanna be overwhelmed,I wanna
be overwhelmed,I wanna be…
I wanna feel…
(Chorus)
I wanna feel…
(Chorus)
…right nowwwwwww
I can hardly stay in my skin
It’s hard to breath out and in
All this passion,all this desire…

Watching,
Watching as he took the holder off his shoulder
Fire in his eyes, hands getting bolder
Quiet,quiet
Growing excited
Dug him for his bank account, but really for
his private
Damn about a mindset
Really wasn’t into that
Needed me some pleasing, jon looking real fat
Laidback was his foreplay
All that was needed, needed was some of that
Started simple
Massaging on my temple
Pinching on my mountain peaks
That a sisters into
I responded,“Mmmmm.”
You like the sound,I like makin’it more
I fell for the rock and shore
Enough,he brought it close so I could really see
Up close he slid between my breast
Sweaty with lust and sweat
Rode Mt.Saint Scott ‘til ooooo
Creamy lava landed on my skin and neck
Blended with my all day Chanel scent
This freaking was incredulent,decadent
Flip side,stomach meets sheets
He plows inside as if he’s making beats
As if this year’s harvest depended on it
Bendin’on it
Back on my back old fashioned is renewed
Red toenail polish on whitewalls
Documenting this freaking,ahhhhh
I must…
Remember…
To thank him…
Later.
No,no,no,
No,no,no
I take charge of ship
Moving with my back and my hips
Like my ancestors did
Speaking the Bantu,Ranga and tonga??
But I’ve gotta stop all that to make it longer,
But it’s too late
I put him to sleep
Curled all up,spasm all in his feet
Feeling all proud like I did something deep
Aint really nothin’it’s the way that it be
North Philly sister repin’hard like me
But why do I feel so empty?
Intro:
Yo,I’m tripping right,
I heard you got married.
You got married?
No I mean,make any
It don’t really make any sense
I mean,It’s not like I,I didn’t think you were
seeing other people or whatever,Imean
I was seeing other people but
You know what this is,
You know what it was,you tsch
I can’t say I really understand though
You chose her cause she’s sweet as pie
Take what you give, even your life
But baby,are happy without me?
She scrubs your back, washes your clothes
Gives you everything that ask for
But don’t you ever want more?
Cause my love
Chorus:
My love is deeper
Tighter
Sweeter
Higher
Flyy-er
Didn’t you know this,
Or didn’t you notice?
(My love,my love)
My love is deeper
Tighter
Sweeter
Higher
Flyy-er
Didn’t you know this,
Or didn’t you notice?
Mmmm, what we had don’t need no words
Deeper than anything you ever heard
I ain’t reaching baby,
I know I should be your lady
You say you’re happy
You say you’re great
But you know and I know you really ain’t
You need to come be with me
That’s the way it’s supposed to be
(Chorus)
Cause ohh,
All I ever do is think about you baby
I hold you in my arms inside my dreams
And I know what I know and what I know is
That no matter where you go
You will always think of me
(Chorus)
(Repeats with adlibs until the end)
It is 4 a.m.
I’m waiting in our bed alone,
Dreaming of your embrace
Wishing you would come back home
But you don’t call,
And you don’t come,
And you don’t say,
That you miss me
And you don’t stop
To say hi
On your way by
I’m feeling crazy
It is 5 a.m.
And I’m waiting by the phone again
This is not how it’s ‘sposed to be
You’re ‘sposed to be here with me
But you’re go’n now
You’re just go’n now
You don’t even think about the way I feel
You’re just go’n now
You’re just go’n now
When I know you should be right here
It’s 6 o’clock in the morning
And I’m so tired of yawning
I am miserable and feeling blue
Cause all I really want is you
But you don’t call,
And you don’t come,
And you don’t say,
That you miss me
And you don’t stop
To say hi
On your way by
I’m feeling crazy
It’s 7 o’clock in the a.m.
In 15 minutes this alarm will be ringing
At work,no one will feel my pain
It’s a shame the way this whole thing changed
But you’re go’n now
You’re just go’n now
You don’t think about the way I feel
You’re just go’n now
You’re just go’n now
When you know that you should be right here
But you don’t call,
And you don’t come,
And you don’t say,
That you miss me
No,no,no,no
And you don’t stop
To say hi
On your way by
This is crazy
Brrring…
Time to wake up,
And put on my strong face
And hope that no one will know
Chorus:
Tell me how you’d feel
If I was,If I was go’n,
Tell me how you’d feel?
Tell me how you’d feel
If I was,If I was go’n,
Tell me how you’d feel?
What if I was go’n forever?
No more chocolate kisses,
No nappy dugout ever,
No mamma,no daughter,no sister,no
No sister friends
Tell me my brother,
What would become of you then?
What if,poof, every black female in the world
disappeared?
Your man-child left unattended
Lost without no one behind the steering wheel
Tell me,hmm mmm,
C’mon, how would that make you feel
C’mon,c’mon,help a sister say
(Chorus)
Your beautiful brown would be forever go’n
With no more cocoa wombs to carry your
brown on
You right there, would be the last of your kind
Can you feel this song? How does that
affect your mind?
Cause if there was no me,there’d be no you
Ooo can you feel me,is this song coming
through
What if,poof,every
black female
in the world
disappeared?
11
That’s the science in it,
but it’s so much more intense
Reach into your soul for the answer
Reach wherever you need to,to find it
(Chorus)
Rap:
Say you be tripping,
Say you pimping it,
Talking ‘bout how you “Da Man”
What you are is something different
By-product of when “Massa”ruled your life
Spreading babies everywhere
Couldn’t think,couldn’t care
But you can now
You can,you can
C’mon and man up
Damn it,Tell me how you’d feel?
No mamma,no daughter
(Chorus)
(Repeat w/ adlibs until fade…)
Ain’t go’n be no eyes
To make me turn away
Ain’t go’n be no kiss
To make me contemplate
Walking out the door
And never coming back no more
(Ain’t go’n,ain’t go’n,ain’t go’n,ain’t go’n,
g-g-go’n)
Ain’t go’n be no cologne
To make me say goodbye
Ain’t go’n be no words
To make me change my mind
Throw away all I know
For something physical
(Ain’t go’n,ain’t go’n,ain’t go’n,ain’t go’n,
g-g-go’n)
Chorus:
Only U
Only U
Only you can make me leave the key and
lock the door
and never come back no muh muh muh,
more
Only U
C-c-c come,come
Ain’t go’n be no style
To make me change my smile
(Ain’t go’n,ain’t go’n,ain’t go’n,ain’t go’n,
g-g-go’n)
Ain’t go’n be no stroll
To make me lose control
(Ain’t go’n,ain’t go’n,ain’t go’n,ain’t go’n,
g-g-go’n)
Of my sanity
Oh no,it won’t be me.
Only you can make me leave the key and
lock the door
And never come back no muh muh
muh,more
Only you can make me leave the key and
lock the door
And never come back no muh muh
muh,more
(Chorus)
(Repeats and echoes until end…)
This here celibacy thing
Lawd,just got something over me
Like an addict,I could really use a thing
You know what I’m talking about
Yeah,yeah,yeah,yeah,yeah,yeah
It’s been hard to sleep at night
I’m ying ying ying ying it
Scratching it right
I get some new batteries almost every night
Lawd,this here celibacy thing
The stresses of this world
You know how they come down on a girl
I’m trying to clear my mind
But all I seem to find
Is this gangsta,gangsta,type of need
People say mind over matter
But,I don’t mind what they say
And it don’t matter
This here celibacy thing
Is working on me…
feat.George Duke
Intro:
Hey
Mmmm hmmm,
Listen to me,listen to me,listen to me,
listen to me
Listen to me,listen to me,listen to me,listen…
I’ve been talking to this man
He’s been saying what I like and
He makes me smile,
When I’m down,so down
He says sweet things in my ear
All the things that I needed to hear
But that’s as far as it’s gone
I promise,I promise
But I enjoy it,I love it so
Cause it seems like I’m always alone
You’re at arms reach
But baby,
Where are you?
Where are you?
Cause I got this fire
Sweet and true
But I’m cold as ice around you
Chorus:
Cause I’m lonely
Whenever you’re around
Cause I’m lonely
Whenever you’re around
(Instrumental Break)
Whoa,whoa,whoa
What happened to the wonderful thing
we had
It seems like you’re missing in action
And I’m tired,I’m tired
I’m tired,I’m tired,I’m tired,I’m tired
I don’t wanna lose this good life
But I ain’t scared
If I’m going to be the only one participating
in this
(Chorus)
… you like
Don’t be scared
You never saw me like this before huh?
I been a goody daddy,but I don’t have to be
If you don’t want me to,I’ll be your nasty baby
No time for games,no rules just play
Hope you been thinking about the same thing
I’m just sayin’what’s on my mind
It’s been good,but now it’s time
To show love what we made of
No time for games,no rules just play
I hope you want me in the same way
Chorus:
Every time I close my eyes, all I dream about is
making love
I can’t even sleep at night, all I dream about is
making love
It’s just all the things I see, when you’re inside of
me,that keeps my mind going crazy
I can’t even think at night, all I dream about is
making love
… to you
I love the shower, out by the kitchen sink
Lay me where you wanna, make my
knees weak
No time for games,no rules just play
Hope you been thinking about the
same thing
I’m just sayin’what’s on my mind
It’s been nice,but now it’s time
To show love what we made of
No time for games,no rules just play
Hope you want me in the same way
(Chorus)
Breakdown:
Do you want it on the back?,it’s like that
Do you want it on the floor?,lover please
Tease me please me spank me feed me you
know what I need baby
(Repeat x 2)
I’m just sayin’what’s on my mind
It’s been nice,but now it’s time
To show love what we made of
No time for games,no rules just play
Hope you want me in the same way
(Chorus)
… like that
… like that
Tease me please me spank me feed me you

(Repeat x 2)
Mmmm,
Don’t,don’t,don’t,don’t,
Don’t,(don’t,don’t) don’t,don’t,don’t,
(don’t don’t)
It’s bad,It’s bad
Sometimes s**t is bad… (don’t)
Look,
Don’t feel no pity for me
Cause I’m going through a couple things,
Life means change,
That’s the way it goes,goes
All my life I had a constant burning
A strong deep,desire
An aching ambiguous,yearning,yearning,
yearning
For something better
For something bigger
For something wider
For something higher
And lots of regrets
Cause I ain’t seem to found it yet
I’ve been searching around the world
Never knowing what to expect
I get sad sometimes
Yes I be mad sometimes
Cause I’m out here on the grind
Making mine
And I still can’t seem to find
What I’ve been looking for
Opened so many doors
For real,yo
I just wanna be loved…
Chorus:
I just wanna be loved
Like everybody else does
I just wanna be loved
I just wanna be loved (Repeat x 4)
I just wanna be loved
(Chorus)
(Ahh… he he he he hey… just breathe (ha),
just breathe (ee hee hee hee hee),just
breathe (hee hee hee hee),just breathe
(breathing sounds) (breath),just breathe

Motivated by the light,sight,and the

So I be workin’on me happily cuz there’s
a mission
And the planet is positioned,hopin’,and

Hey hey hey hey
Take a long walk Sip some lemonade
Take your clothes off
Relax in the shade

When I write the rightness,tightness
It just flows and flows
Pull it from my left side, right brain
Grab it from my neck,my toes
I feel the music sink into me
Go through me,move me,move me
It’s a pleasure to be live and thinkin’
It’s a pleasure to be in this zone
Chorus:
I just let it go
Don’t stop this feeling
Chop this feeling
I just let it go
Don’t stop this feeling
Chop,chop,no
(Repeat x 2)
When I sing the rightness,tightness
It just goes and goes
Pull it from my people’s legacy
Way down in my soul
I let the spirit move right to me
Come through me,move me,whoa

It’s a pleasure to be vocalizing
It’s a pleasure to sing this song
(Chorus)
Music is my life
Takes away the strife
Of day to day sorrow and pain
Music is my life
Takes away the strife
And helps me breathe again

Jill I just want to personally thank you for your music. It is an honor to even write this message to you. You are certainly someone that gets me through my trials and tribulations and I feel that your music always comes on time. Its crazy to have someone sing about the exact emotions your going through. I read in a bio that your zodiac sign was an Aries. I am one as well and I hope that I develop into someone as beautiful as you inside and out.
Ps. I got the album and i’m counting the days for “Why did I get Married”!
I hope that you see this posting because sometimes posting things on webistes, it never gets to the artist. But anyway….. you are an great woman as an artist. You remind me of my mother and her mother – strong spirited. Your first album encouraged me while I was away at school and I did not understand some things on it, but later as I went through things I could relate to things I did not understand. Now this Vol. 3 – Real Thing – is off tha chain! I mean it’s another album of yours that I expected would be quality. I hope more blessings for you.
Jill, This is the bomb. All your cd’s are great.
Girl, Girl, Girl you did it again. Thanks

Sheer Perfection…..The Real thing!
MAGNIFICENT!! I can’t stop playing it. Your voice is beautiful. You went to the core once again. I thought I had a favorite but how can I pick just one. Impossible. The WHOLE album blows me away. Thank You.
This album is sooo awesome. It’s everything I wish I could say…but I am never able to express words so deep. It is what I feel and hope I show through actions. Very sensual and erotic. I get chills listening to “Epiphany”. By far some of your best work. Yet another Jill Scott CD that does not leave my CD rotation…
Please keep them coming…
God Bless You!!!
Ms. Jill! Thanks so much again for blessing us again with your words that speak experience, wisdom, truth and love. This most recent album almost tempted me to gett some “Crown Royal on Ice”but “Celibacy” brought me back to my senses! Thank you Jill for being such a sower of good seeds
All your your music and poetry have been the sound track to my life. Through the good times, heart- breaks, and new love you have had a word or sound so comforting. When I had the desire for something artist icand reminiscent of black excellence that we all cherish, I have found it in you!

Welcome Back Mz. Scott!!!
“Crown Royal on Ice” and “Hate on Me”….baby girl. I needed those you are one of the most prolific and exciting talents to come along in a long time. I know you write from your heart and write what you feel because it seems to a lot of women you are just looking into our hearts. Thanks for sharing this journey with us and being a “Voice”.
Peace!!!
I have to say this cd like all your others ones of course is on point, and you never disappoint. Thank you for your committment to making quality music.
This album truly has the heart of a women – single and married. Insomnia, How it Make you Feel, Celibacy Blues and Whenever You’re Around are classics.
Thank you Ms. Scott
Oh my, you’e managed to do it again!!!!! I need to hear this music as much as you need to share it. “The Real Thing” has been my therapy for the last week(it”s probably saved me a fortune in therapy–LOL). I love you,I love your music, and I love your insight into ALL aspects of love and life. Stay blessed and keep producing REAL music.
Jill…. “wanna be loved”, captured all that I am feeling as a woman…. all I can say is thank you.
My husband and I are LOVING this CD. Right now I can’t say which one is our favorite since it seems to change daily. The honesty….the honesty. We have tickets to one of your shows. Looking forward to seeing you perform your new material LIVE.
Ms. Scott,
You’re very gifted in that you’re able to articulate the “sensual” side of music. You give life and creativity to music in a way that makes you stand in a class all by yourself. Your latest release, The Real Thing Vol.3 is just that- the real thing by the real you.
OH MY GOSH!! This cd is soooooooo great, awesome, amazing. I am in my dorm just vibin’ to it while I am typing my paper. I can’t even explain all the emotions I am feeling!! Just know that every song has touched my soul and I am so glad that I bought it. The music and lyrics have taken me to another level. May GOD continue to bless your craft and strengthen you. Thanks for speaking to my heart
JILL
I love the new album especially Epiphany and Crown Royal. Girl you must have been reading my mind when you wrote those words because that is how I am feeling right about now. I love you much and I can’t wait until you come back to Detroit!!!!! I love you! Keep doing your thang sistah!!!!
Jill I have to say that this album is soooo delicous!!! It feels me up and I gotta have a 2nd and 3rd and 4th helping. I feel as if we are kindred spirits. The emotions and depthness of your GOD blessed abilities are beyond comprehension. I have just about all of your CD’s except 2, but I am working on getting those. I love every word you say. The expression of your passion and the vitality of your energy is so powerful. You have helped me through some rough times. Don’t get it twisted GOD does it all, but through him giving you the talents you have it has helped me. I finally am understanding that who I am is who I must learn to love and if I love me then no matter who else doesn’t want this love I will always have it. YOU GOT IT GOING ON! I am a poet and I write as I feel…my flow isn’t where I want it to be, but I won’t give up until I reach the top of my potential. All I can say is w/out a doubt I am your #1 fan and admirier of your art. The concept of love, joy, hurt and pain are so vague in todays society and its an everyday occurance, but the way you put it down it is dealable. You let us know feel what you feel no matter if you are happy and sad and be blessed for the experience. You know that saying “That which doesn’t kill me(you) will on make me (you) strong. I have that strength and Lord knows you bask in the strength pool. It’s like your sun and moon, your birds in the air on a journey and your stars in the night sky that lights the way of your tears path. You have got to feel so blessed to know that your words carry so much more than what you write or the music your words are put to. I just want to let you know that I truly love you and what you do…I hope that you will come down our way for a concert. I am a single mom so even if you come to Atlanta chances are I still won’t make it to see you, but if by chance you feel the urge to come on to Columbus, GA, I will be first in line to get a front row ticket. Much love, peace and blessings to you and yours.
Love,
Marva London

I’m so feeling crown royal. I have someone in my life that this song describes perfectly. I feel like your reading my private thoughts
AND I HEARD… Jill, I saw you perform last night in Greensboro, NC. Awesome show, I couldn’t feel closer to you – doubt if you’d remember but you actually waved at me after the show…you were backstage…I was lurking around trying to catch a glance of your smile LOL! You are beautiful inside and out. Your song you dreamed about…And I heard – it literally made me cry, along with my mom and 2 of my aunts. When you told us about your dream and the name of the song…then you said “these are someone elses words” – it literally scared me because I have an aunt name Gayle that passed in 07, a year ago in Jan. actually but when she was here – at every family function – Christmas, Thanksgiving, Birthdays, plan old Johnson Family Dinner she would sing her signature song she wrote… “And I Heard”… and it was “…all about Jesus and what he’s done for me” – So when you said the title it caught me off guard…then you started singing about Jesus and God…and I couldn’t hold the tears. The lyrics weren’t exactly hers but the message and the title are the same. I felt like she was there. Thank you Jill.

OK, I must admit that this feels right. Ms. Scott you are awesome! Keep your candle burning because no one can touch or hold theirs to yours. I’m glad to see your light and appreciate the fact that you share it with the world. It’s funny I’ve never considered myself a fan of anyone…it’s not my style. But to you…I think that I’m one. You are one of the great ones, and most importantly you have something to say and say it! I consider you a chef you prepare meals and feed the hungry with your words and realness and your truths “The Real Thing” not even a question. Continue to be great and do you. Grown folks music at its best!
Ms. Jill Scott,
This CD is the absolute truth… From the first song to the last. I have always been a fan of yours but this CD is soulful and I know women of all nationalities can relate, especially if they are women who have truly been through some things with men. I could relate to every song by my experiences or other women whom I know.

crown royal on ice is the most senuous thing i’ve ever heard. it beats marvin gayes’ sexual healing and the isley brother in between the sheets almost. now that saying a hell of a lot.
this girl from philly is off the chain, and she tears ideologies and thoughts out the frame.
i bow down to the queen of lyrics.
Loved Jill from the begining. This CD is another masterpiece. Saw you when you came to N.O. for the Jazz fest, you were awesome.I’ll see you at Essence. Continue to record good music. Be Blessed.
There are no words for The Real Thing. It tell a part of me that only lovers get to know and want more of..
Jill how did you know my secrets, and to be able to put them to words/music. I feel exposed when listening to this album. Like I need to close the curtains.
Ms. Scott,
You must know that I have followed your career from your first album. As a writer I appreciate your attention to linguistic detail, your vocal honesty and your performative flare. I saw you recently in Chicago at the Chicago Theater. I was blessed enought to be given the gift sit close to the stage and it was wonderful. Thank you , Thank you, Thank you for The Real Thing.
Sistah,
It’s been said over a dozen times, you truly did not disappoint– simply amazing artistry!
My girlfriends and I have discussed each song and it’s interesting how each person comes away with a different meaning. My most favorite, “How It Make You Feel”, it’s so beautiful, raw, yet gentle enough to touch the core of one’s being. This one was needed especially in the times in which we live. Thanks for making music enjoyable again!
I’ve been out of work for a while and having to cut back i could not buy cd’s, so the moment I found a little extra money I bought your new cd and wow I’ve heard the songs on the radio, but wow. “I just want to be loved” is what Im stuck on right now. who told you to write my life down on paper. thank you.
FOR ME WITH LOVE FROM JILL SCOTT. I AM A SCOTTOLOGIST. RIP SAMMIE LEE.

This album took me on a high, a low, it had me horny, greatful, happy, sad. It was great to see that Jill shared so many thoughts with me. My goodness, if only I was able to express my deepest feelings, thoughts in this manor. But she said it all. A beautiful sista, a major WOMAN in every way. She got it, she got me. I loved, love, loved! this album.
