On Friday, March 27, in Chicago, I saw a private screening of No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency. I really enjoyed it. It was heart wrenching and hilarious. I liked the connection and dedication of Precious Ramotswe and her dying father and how Precious duped Happy Baptiste’s fradulent father into confessing that he wasn’t her father. I liked the way she kept all of his belongings that Happy bought him and dumped him on a dirt road. That was priceless. The cheating husband was a trip also. The wife came to the agency wanting to know if her husband had been unfaithful to her and Precious served it up to her on a platter and all she did was insult Precious. I don’t think it mattered how the woman received the information she would have gotten angry anyway. The missing finger and the underlying story was interesting too. P.S. Jill, you and Anika are two beautiful sistas. Anika, had everyone cracking up!!!!!!!!!!

I really enjoyed the show last night. Jill always plays a woman with character. I thought the Secretary was funny but loving even though she tried to put up a tough exterior. I cried when she found the little boy with all his fingers. Much blessings to you Jill and your new baby.

Jill you go girl- I am writing to HBO to ask them to please let this be a weekly series. I love this show and you are perfect for the part.. The colorful dresses with the matching headbands is so lovely- I dont know who you are but I love your show. I hope you win an Emmy this year because that accent is on it. The colors the landscape. I love Jill and her secretary the “gay barber just doesn’t pull his character off- The actor is terrible playing a “gay” barber anyone knows a “gay” salon owner would be so outrageous and funny as hell. He just isn’t very good. The various characters are great. Get a better actor for the “gay” guy but good luck. I hope you win an emmy. You are so pretty!! big and natually pretty
LOVE, LOVE LOVE It! No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency is a huge hit. Please know that this show is Smart, Funny, and handles tough subjects without having to turn off the TV when the kids come in. It is nice to see something about Africa that is not negative and yet it does not cover the problems that do exist. Characters are perfectly cast. I know a hit when I see it. I’ve been watching the show on HBO and you are wonderful! As the child of African parents, I’m always skeptical when I see shows having anything to do with “Africa” in a monolithic way. I love that the show really highlights Botswana and gives such a lovely sense of the place. Plus, your accent is amazing! If I didn’t know you were American I wouldn’t from the show.
I also forgot that you were a singer until I heard you sing in the pilot episode!

I have always loved and admired Jill Scott and now have another reason. I have not missed an episode! I think the show is a wonderful contrast to the reality foolishness happening these days. My fav so far? Mma Ramotswe telling Mma Makutsi that she is 100% satisfied with her, knowing how important a “good score” is to her. It was a touching example of a growing friendship.
Last week’s show was amazing! Seems like they keep getting better and better. I get together faithfully every Sunday at 8 to watch it with my girlfriends… it’s a part of our weekly relief! The love of my life live 1500 miles apart right now, and every Sunday night, he and I stop what we’re doing and watch your show together. You have to know, your music and your essence has infiltrated our lives. His youngest son was conceived while listening to “The Way”. It’s hard for him to hear the song now because his wife passed while having that son. But he loves and respects what you represent, and I don’t blame him. When I started watching the show, it was hard because my baby died shortly after I had her and my husband was extremely abusive, though moreso emotionally and mentally. I could go on and on…you have given me so much…by just being you. I have learned to embrace and love my natural me…my nappy hair…beautiful brown skin…round hips and full face…thank you for being you. God has blessed this world with you!
I just watched the latest episode of No. 1 Ladies Detective…and I just want to say, I love this show. First the scences are amazing and has me ready to pack to visit Boswana, or Africa period. Second, I am hooked! I have not missed an episode. Anika Noni Rose is so funny and authentic.

Love this series. The characters are fun and interesting. Better still are the actors such as Jill Scott who bring life to these characters.
This is a really enjoyable show. It is funny and always twisting and turning as Jill Scott goes through researching the cases that she receives. It is also heart warming to see soo many faces of color on a show that is not about sports, gangs, or nudity. Thank you for a show I can watch with my children.

Just wanted to add my two cents, I LOVE THE #1 LADIES DETECTIVE AGENCY.!!!!!! My husband and I say things like KO KO, it is as if I’m able to contect with my African folks and remember some of my roots. I know there is a greater possibility tha my folks came from Western Africa, but seeing Africa on American television is very cool. I can see the Black folks in my neighborhood. So no matter where we are our personalities ring true.

I am still watching and still loving, embracing this story of love for a country I may never know, the honesty of our people and the love and kinship to our home, AFRICA. I went back and reviewed the journals attached to each episode, to learn the reasoning of the funeral procession. It helped me to understand why we do what we do. The vibrant colors we wear. I understand and love it. The need to understand the kink in my hair and to choose to wear it proudly. How proudly you represent me as you embrace us!!!!
