In 2006 I wrote a manuscript which is the first one I have ever written. It is a fiction/romance that I strongly feel is worth reading. I felt inspired to write the manuscript after watching the DVD “The Secret”. The reason I write to you is because the character in the story I wrote is a person I know many women will definitely identify with and appreciate. The other reason I decided to write you is because I truly admire your strength, grace, honesty, and courage. Also, I absolutely love, love, love your inspiring soul stirring songs, and the powerful message each one conveys. I watch the Monique show every night, and I am truly inspired and motivated by the guest she has on her show to go after my dreams. Therefore, I would love to send you this story via email or regular mail if interested. I feel in my heart and spirit that the story I wrote has true potential, and everything in life happens for a reason.
Thank you for your consideration of my letter. I hope to hear from you with your thoughts, and hopefully feedback of my manuscript. I don’t think you’ll be disappointed after reading the entire story, if you choose to do so. “Nothing ventured is nothing gained.”

I was just watching you on the Mo’Nique show and something she kept saying moved me to post here. She kept saying that your music saves lives and I want you to know that for me your music has definitely got me through some hard times. Me and my college roommate joke about this now but during my sophomore year of college I was very down and depressed and dealing with self-esteem issues and I would listen to songs like “One is the magic #” and “slowly surely” and it would get me through another day. My roommate said that whenever she heard your music playing in the room she knew something was wrong and I was going through it. It’s funny now but still to this day I listen to those songs in particular to remind myself of my own self worth. I made it through college and grad school listening to your music. Also, I’m so excited about your new Lifetime movie. I come for a mother who was an addict and just from the clips I have seen I can tell the movie will be powerful and tell a story that is not often told from and African American perspective. I am such a fan and cannot wait and am praying that you will come back to Denver some day (saw you during the sugar water tour). Love, Teka J.

i was truly disappointed when i could not watch your 2/21/10 movie tonight, “Sins of a the Mother.” For weeks, Cablevision/Lifetime /Channel 45 (Bronx, ny) advertised your movie. However, tonight, Channel 45 instructed the Cablevision customers to switch to Lifetime Movie Network. I could not find that cable station, so I called Cablevision. The Cablevision rep told me that i was about the 100th customer calling about your 2/21/10 movie! I was also informed by the rep that Cablevision did not have Lifetime movie Network (LMN). So, i consider the action by Cablevision/Lifetime as fraud. I just wanted to inform you that no one in New York: Bronx, Brooklyn, Queens, or Long Island was able to view your movie featured for Black History Month!
Just seen Sins of the Mother and girl ‘u did that!’. Lol! Besides that; I’m a big fan and play ‘He love me’on repeat. : ) Continue to blossom Jill. God bless.

My son and I love to watch you in, “No.1 Ladies Detective.” When are you coming back to that show? We saw the LMN movie too, that was very good. You all did a great job on the movie. I love to watch you on film. But girrrl….please go back to Africa! I’m just wanting to watch that show again on HBO. Are you going to continue that series? please continue. I love it!!! When I was watching , “Sins of the mother,” I keep waiting for your African accent to slip in. Even though I know it’s just for the show, I’m just use to hearing it. I kept going in and out, like saying to myself, “something is missing here.” Then I remembered, “this is just a regular movie, it’s not No.1 Ladies Detective.” Girl you gotta back to that, that’s yours. I had to buy the move because of your roll, and the passionate way you brung it girl! esp. when you got it all together and you lost the weight , regained your self worth and you told your girls what you felt like after all the hurt. Dear Jill, I’m sorry to have read what I read in your article. I know where your coming from, especially the way you write it, your writing is DYNAMIC ! A younger Maya Angelou in my humble opinion. While I feel where your coming from, I certainly don’t believe your a racist. You are simply conscious and educated about the past, present and future struggles of black people. You cherish the sacred connection of black men and women together. I get it ! Nonetheless, I’ve supported your artistry over the years, saw you in Oakland,CA and felt the inner soul you shared with your fans through your music and now acting.. Your words sting me because I am also bi-racial (Jamaican and Italian) like many of your fans, and while your article speaks to your feelings and recognized truths, it also offends those that don’t subscribe to the same thoughts or feelings about those truths. It offends those that are mixed as myself, I know I am seen as just another Ni**er by all ignorant people, in spite of my mixed heritage. Probably because my Italian background isn’t evident when one meets me. Nonetheless, your article offends and alienates many of your fans. But I suspect you knew that it would before you gave your approval to print it. That said, you are willing to stand by your beliefs in spite of those you offend, including your fans, that you will probably lose.
I can only respect you for sticking to your principles. Whether I agree or not, I know you are a strong woman and spirit that is willing to stand on your beliefs and principles at any cost.

After reading Jill Scott’s “The Wince”, I realize that she is an insecure person. That is the only logical explanation for why other people’s choices bother her to this extent. When I was a teenager and in my early 20s it used to bother me to some degree if I saw a Black man with a woman of another race. However, as time went on I let go of my feelings of inadequacy and realized that a person’s choice in dating or selecting a mate has nothing to do with me. Especially if it’s someone that I don’t know personally or someone that’s a casual acquaintance.
I could probably understand Ms. Scott’s point of view if she had mentioned in her essay that a former lover or spouse had left her for a White woman, and was treated as if she were inferior. But in actuality, she is just complaining about a man who she refers to as a “friend”, whose wife is Caucasian.
Slavery is a very ugly part of America’s history. However, Jill Scott’s attempt to make her point isn’t completely relevant to life in the 21st Century. Unfortunately, there is still hatred and racism in this country. But Ms. Scott’s opinions are counterproductive. If she really stopped to think, she is a very prejudice person. I attended one of her concerts in 2001. I recall Jill ranting about her distaste for unions between Black men and White women.
Jill Scott wants to be perceived as a confident and strong Black woman, but actions say otherwise. If she truly loved herself she wouldn’t feel “betrayed” or slighted by the choices of random Black men.

My daughter is eleven and has written songs and always imagine that she has an audition with you. I know this will be posted in public and did not have another way to contact you, so I am giving this a try. You are coming to our city soon and my daughter has been asking me to come to your show. The problem is my husband and I recently lost our jobs and cannot afford tickets. Hi Jill ,I am a huge fan but a very disappointed fan I have front row tickets to see you at Macy’s Music Festival in Cincinnati Ohio and I see you have dropped out of the line up. I have been trying to see you fn recent tours with Maxwell but you were not in the Columbus, Ohio tour with Maxwell. I hope you come to Columbus soon as you can see I am willing to travel to see your performance and payed big money for hotel room and tickets to come to Cindy to see you.
