I was there and it was soooo cute the way he seems to have presently surprised her. He presented her with some yellow roses gave her a bunch of smooches than whispered probably a sweet congrats baby on doing the damn thing at Carnegie Hall (her first time-& that in itself is major)..She blushed & got all giddy..lol. than announced they were enagaged..I’m so happy for her,,,I’ve read so many negative vile comments about them today on line. People are going to hate just b/c their miserable…Anywho they (her andf her band) turned it out at the Hall yall hear me I mean put on a helluva show and to know that Jill found her special somebody for her was just icing on the cake….

Yes it is very true….I was there! He walked over to her with the bouquet of flowers….whispered something and they exchanged a passionate kiss. That obviously set the audience off. She immediately started to blush….and announced that they were engaged and that it was the first time they were announcing it to anyone. Very interesting to say the least. I wish her the best with the relationship.
I immediately felt very skeptical about it…he is a younger cat….his myspace states that he is a “parent”…and it is awfully quick to be in another relationship…after Lyzel and the divorce.

Well I have to admit that I am a stalker as well, just like Tracy/New York and Baby Queen. My wife and her mother think so. I Whenever she comes to VA, I am there. I love Jill Scott to death, but I must admit her being with this dude is way to much. Last time I saw Jill in she was all about men in her performance and she even talked a little too much about head. i could tell it was all about her little drummer boy. I love Jill because I always felt she did not need a man to define her and that she is a strong black woman who can stand alone. This man like most men will become in time a big disappointment. Jill you are precious and deserve the best. Just because you are 36 does not mean you have to get married again to a loser who wants to probably promote his career. Dear Queen, In response to your comment, no one is hating on Jill. I love Jill snd whenever she comes to perform in my town , I’m there. It would take a woman likerself you to think the best thing for Jill is to settle down with the “drummer” and have his seed . I remember in the comment telling how your first album made me believe in love again and that even for me it was possible. Hey All: There is some funny shit being written on here….WOW! Where to begin. When did it become a problem to be a drummer? That’s too funny. I love Jill just like everyone else or at least the ones who are being REAL With it.
Jill is a “Friend In My Head” ala Wendy Williams, and her Individual Talent has been a Blessing to me and anyone who accepts that God can bless One with that kind of talent. As a friend, fan and person who knows that it feels good to share “Good Love” DAMN IT, Good for Jill, John and anyone else who knows that feeling. It won’t or doesn’t define her, its just another part and piece to who she is and becomes.

I am sooo happy for you. Life without LoVe is truly a boring one! I am happy you have found someone that LoVes you and someone you can LoVe forever. Sometimes as strong black women we are afraid to say we want LoVe. I’m educated, independent, and strong. What I desire out of Life is not for everyone… I want a husband and children. This does not make me any less of a woman, it does not mean I am weak, and it does not mean I am dependent. I’m not afraid to say I Love Men, I adore marriage and commitment. So, congrats! Before you engagement you were beautiful, strong, and an independent woman. Afterwards you are so much more.

First, know one has more genuine love for Jill Scott than I do. I luv her for the person she is outside all the glitz and glamour.Im for whatever decision she makes! I do know nothing is guaranteed and if God is not in the equation it sooner or later will fail. Question is: If the last marriage did not last til death did them part, what makes this a guarantee??? Jill is a beautiful, upbeat ,energetic, assertive person who wants to maximize her life and live to the fullest!!!!! It will take a godfearing man who will know his place in Jill’s life, and not cause any confusion, and jealousy. He has to be secure within himself. People are killing me with some of their comments. Not necessarily on here(actually…some on here, like ‘lee-lee’ was straight DUMBASS IGNORANT) but also elsewhere. I happen to be a good friend of Lil John as I’ve known him for well over a decade (wow…time flies). Anyway, I don’t get why people think he’s this “new” and “young” drummer. Here a couple of facts:
1) Jill is 38…John is 36…how much SIGNIFICANTLY younger is he than her?? LOL
2) John has been SUCCESSFULLY drumming and producing for longer than some of the new artists, like Chris Brown, has been alive LOL Hell, he’s been a SUCCESSFUL, WORLD-RESPECTED, WELL-CONNECTED drummer before Jill even came out with her debut album, so those who say he’s being an opportunist in marrying her don’t really know s**t, to say the least! And, as they’re both from Philly, they’ve known each other for the longest, though he had his situation and Jill had hers and so they were naturally platonic during.
John has played for almost everyone huge or worth playing for…including 2 tours with Janet Jackson, Jamie Foxx, Rachelle Ferrell, Kindred, and so many more for so many different genres, I’d get carpal tunnel doing the full list. This is the cat OTHER drummers count as either their peer or idol! Oh, and I guarantee you he’s played on more albums that YOU OWN than you probably didn’t even know!
Okay, I’m sorry for ranting, but this cat is like fam to me and I can see how stupid (including myself) people can get when people start talking s**t about things they know little or nothing about!
Yes, he’s a parent but a good father nonetheless, and although I’ve only met Jill in passing, I’d say she’s the one who came up (no diss to Lyzel or even her, for the matter) cuz he’s a cool ass dude and I hope Philly’s first couple does well!

I felt inclined to post something here after reading many different comments about Jill Scott. First of all, I think that people are just going overboard with the responses. Jill is an adult and can make her own decisions. I know that a lot of the comments although some are ignorant and rash is just an attempt, I hope to spare someone from pain. I do not think that everyone that listed a comment that was not postive is a hater. I for one would say that girl if you found true love bask in it. Proceed with caution for your heart is like a delicate fine jewl and your feelings important. I am not saying John is good or bad that is not my business and I do not know him, just like I do not know you personally. However I wish you all of the best and you are a true testament to the gift of love. I admire your ability to continue to love although you have hurt so deeply. Jill, if you pray ask God to show you how far you should go. Get still and do not be afraid of what the answer may be. Always remember that a no today may make you feel wonderful tomorrow. Who knows it could be a yes but your answer is always right in front of you. Be blessed sister and may god’s grace continue to cover you and protect you.
Jill there is a scripture that says Be still and know that I am God. Jill when you are able to get a little rest and things slow down, listen to the voice that brought you through your rough time with lyzel. Listen to the voice that gives you your creative edge. Listen to the voice that speaks so strong to you when everyone is gone and the show is over. Be still and listen and there will be your answer. We all know that love is not a clear cut thing. It has many different colours and faces. It sounds and feels different for everyone. I think that all the negative talk is people feeling concerned about you. People not wanting you to hurt. I could almost feel the hurt in your song “my love”. I am not saying anything about John because I do not know much about him. I do know that you seem to be a beautiful successful down to earth individual. Always remember that the people that we link with should enhance us not take away. If John adds to your life then you know that its all good and right. I am happy for you but move with caution. Sometimes people come into our lives for different seasons and if we try to make them stay longer than their season that is when we start to suffer. I didn’t have the opportunity to bear witness to the special moment. However, I was surprised and happy to hear my gurl Jill is engage. I wish her blessings and happiness in her life.
However, do be careful Jill. This does seems soon after Lyzel and the divorce. But you will know better than me. Protect your self, financially, and continue to live, love and be happy.

To the people who are defending Jill’s self-esteem:
If you don’t know her or anything about her personally, beyond what you’ve seen in interviews or heard in her music, you may stand corrected.
Jill went through it with her divorce from Lyzel. She went her separate ways last year with her longtime manager. John is, coincidentally, her drummer. I met everyone in her band and when I met John, prior to him being her “fiance,” he was trying to get @ me. He had a gf at that time and someone put me up on the fact that he should have a collar and leash, not a frohawk.
Jill is on the rebound. She thought she would still be married right now and have children, but what she is on is husband #2, a career that is mediocre but she is not a household name by any means, and a movie role here and there. Her music and her albums are fantastic and she has a beautiful voice, but she also has a sh!tty attitude and she’s been taking her sh!t out on people who have been there since the inception who, despite whatever trials and tribulations she’s going through, still love her and want the best for her.
I wish Jill and John all the best, but in the end, they will only end up with what they deserve.

Jill I just want to say that I truly love your music, creativity, and diversity and last but most importantly your realness and touchability. Congrats on your engagement and for everyone else stop hatin damn it!!!!! Jill you obviously paid your dues in the man department and I am happy to find that there is a reward for the bullshit that some put us sistas thru. Keep that smile and keep tapping into that creative power of God in you.
After reading some of the other comments I had so much to say …. but you know what …. defense of Jill by me isn’t really important (although she’s one of my best friends in my head — LOL).
What is important is that after all the negativity surrounding her and her relationships, how she lives her life, how she embraces her sexuality, she still continues to rise. When I read comments like some of those posted below, then think of Jill, Maya Angelou’s voice pops up in my head with her rendition of “I rise”.
Jill, continue to do what you do lady. When I say lady I mean it in EVERY respectful sense of the word. You’re vibrant, funny, loving, beautiful, sensual …. just all-round amazing. If your new love embraces all that you are and helps you to further embody who you can keep growing to be …. then I say let the haters hate.
